A still from Bombay Velvet
New Delhi:
Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet is now a 'debacle' at the box office, having made just over Rs 16 crores in three days.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
The period piece, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, was among this year's most anticipated films and released last Friday.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Anurag Kashyap said he was not "depressed or hiding" after the film was savaged by critics.
In sharp contrast to the empty theatres screening Bombay Velvet are the ones showing director Shoojit Sircar's Piku, starring Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan, which released the Friday before.
Piku is also this year's top performing Bollywood film abroad.
Piku was released in fewer screens than Bombay Velvet was.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
#BombayVelvet is a DEBACLE! Fri 5.20 cr, Sat 5.10 cr, Sun 5.80 cr. Total: ₹ 16.10 cr. India biz.
