Los Angeles:
On September 2, Anthony Horowitz, writer of the new James Bond novel Trigger Mortis apologised on Twitter for stating that Idris Elba is "Probably a bit too street" to play the fictional British spy. This is what he tweeted:
Earlier on August 29, in an interview to dailymail.co.uk Mr Horowitz said that he thought that the Avengers: Age of Ultron actor was "A bit too rough" to play the part, although he asserted that it wasn't "A colour issue".
'For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too "street" for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah,' he said.
The Luther star has long been touted as the fans' choice to become the first black Bond. However for some, the reference to the Pacific Rim actor as "too street" was reportedly code for "too black". (Also Read: Idris Elba to Play Villain in Star Trek 3?)
Between The World and Me author Ta-Nehisi Coates tweeted that the writer should "Just be honest and say 'James Bond's being white'," is important to him. He posted more than one tweets on the matter.
Mr Horowitz, whom Bond creator Ian Fleming chose to take over the 007 books, said that his issue with Idris Elba for the role has nothing to do with the actor's race.
"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," the writer said.
As for the silver screen, actor Daniel Craig will return as James Bond in Sam Mendes' Spectre, which is slated to release in November later this year. (Also Read: SPECTRE Trailer: A Disappearing 007 and Two New Bond Girls)

Just be honest and say "James Bond's being white is important to me" and be done with it. cc @reetamac

Idriss Elba is not "too street," in roughly the same way that Serena Williams is "too masculine." @jbouie

Elba is "too street" in much the same way that Obama was "too foreign," and King was "too communist," @jbouie
