New York: Bobby Farrell, the frontman of the 70's disco quartet Boney M, has died in St Petersburg of unknown causes. He was 61.

The Daddy Cool hitmaker, known for his flamboyant costumes and energetic dancing was found dead in his hotel room on Thursday morning, said his agent John Seine, reported Time online.

The death was sudden, since he performed with his band yesterday in the Russian city and his body was found in his room by hotel staff after he failed to respond to a wake-up call.

Farrell born in Aruba as Roberto 'Bobby' Alfonso Farrell left home at 15 to become a sailor. He lived in Norway and the Netherlands before moving to Germany where he worked as a DJ and a dancer.

Producer Frank Farian recruited him for Boney M and he was the group's sole male singer. The group consisting of Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams, Marcia Barrett and Farrell have all-time hits like Rivers of Babylon, Rasputin and Bahama Mama to their credit.
