Vinay Pathak said media has a greater role to play in educating audience about cinema.

Actor Vinay Pathak feels box officecollections should not be a parameter to judge success of afilm as there are many movies that do not reach audiencedespite being better.
"A lot of time money (box office collection) has beenconsidered as a parameter to judge the success of a film,"Pathak said while participating in a discussion on thesidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) whichis currently underway in Goa.
"Money should never be a scale to judge a good or badstory," he said, adding "audience should decide which is agood movie and only they can decide when to watch it."
Pathak, who has starred in movies like Bheja Fry,Bheja Fry 2, Chalo Dilli, Dasvidaniya and Rab Ne BanaDi Jodi, said media has a greater role to play in educatingaudience about cinema.
"Majority of our audience are not literate about cinema,"he added.
Actor Kabir Bedi said the nature of media itself ischanging. "There is a whole new vista that has opened up inthe form of television and internet," he said.
Through broadband, every computer screen in householdscan be turned into a silver screen. "Spend the money indubbing the film and put it on mediums like youtube," headvised.
The actor also said the people with similar interestscan form community groups on the internet and view films,without physically coming together.
"With this, all kinds of films will find a place oninternet and filmmakers will also find audience," he added.
