London:
French First Lady Carla Bruni has confirmed the name of her daughter as Giulia, a day after she gave birth to the baby girl.
In a message on her website, Bruni wrote yesterday: "I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter Giulia. On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all who sent us these tokens of your kindness."
Earlier, the 43-year-old former Italian supermodel-turned -singer's husband Nicolas Sarkozy, the first French President to have a baby in office, spoke of his "very profound joy" at the birth of his daughter.
"We are lucky to have been blessed by a new arrival. All parents can understand the very profound happiness Carla and I feel, and at the same time everyone can understand that this happiness is all the more profound because it is private," hesaid, adding both the mother and daughter are doing very well.
Although no official statement was made, it was reported that France's "First Baby" was born at 7.30 PM on Wednesday at La Muette maternity clinic in Paris.
With no official confirmation on the name till yesterday night, Le Figaro newspaper said it believed the couple had plumped for either Giulia--the spelling in Bruni's nativeItaly--or Julia, in a nod to 56-year-old Sarkozy's Hungarian roots.
