New Delhi: Filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane, who made the much-awarded Court, will spend a year under the stewardship of Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron as part of the Rolex Mentor Protege and Arts Initiative. Mr Tamhane will get to watch Mr Cuaron at work but told NDTV that he cannot reveal details of the Mexican director's next film.

"I get to spend time with Cuaron for over a year, observe him at work and get his feedback on mine. I also would be attending the shoot of his next film, details of which I cannot divulge," Mr Tamhane said.

"We will be meeting over the course of the shoot. The shoot is the heart of the mentorship programme because it's the best way to understand a person's thought process," he said.

Chaitanya Tamhane, 29, was reportedly personally chosen by Mr Cuaron as his protege. Alfonso Cuaron is the director of Y Tu Mama Tambien and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He won the Oscar for Directing in 2014 for Gravity.

Court, which was Mr Tamhane's debut, deals with the Indian legal system and won the National Award for Best Feature Film last year. It was also India's official Oscar entry although it didn't make the cut. Court has extensively toured the festival circuit and won awards at the Venice, Vienna, Singapore, Mumbai and other film fests.
