Prakash Jha is hoping that the hype surrounding his just-announced Amitabh Bachchan-Kareena Kapoor starrer Satyagraha will benefit the release of his upcoming film Chakravyuh.
Satyagraha is based on the raging issue of corruption in the country while Chakravyuh seeks to explore the Naxal problem.
"There is a lot of buzz about Chakravyuh and the film might benefit from the hype surrounding Satyagraha. It was important to announce the new film at this point as I am planning to begin shooting it in a few months. Satyagraha is slated for an August 15 release next year," Prakash Jha said.
Chakravyuh, starring Arjun Rampal and Abhay Deol, is set to release on October 24.
Prakash Jha, 60, says the film is a strong, emotional story in the backdrop of the Naxal problem.
"The problem is only increasing, from the forest it is spilling onto our industrial and agricultural area. A lot of people are getting attracted to this ideology. I feel it was high time that there was an effort at understanding the issue and starting the process of a solution through social and political means. A lot of people in the society don't know much about this problem. There is an alienation as well, if you go to a Naxal area you will realise they are living in a different world altogether. It's high time we came up with a solution," he said.
But Prakash Jha's film doesn't seek to provide a solution. Instead, he has tried to assimilate the various view points and present a wholesome picture.
"I wish I had a solution. But I have tried to include all points of views. I crossed over to the other side and tried to show their point. I have also explored the corruption in the Naxal hierarchy, how politics and industry is polluting the operational issue. If we try and understand the problem I think a solution will be there," he said.
Prakash Jha, who faced trouble during the release of his past two films Raajneeti and Aarakshan, is aware that this film too will attract various reactions from viewers, but he is hoping that the criticism won't get controversial this time.
"I am open to views. When you deal with social issues, there are definitely going to be point of views that will differ from you. So you try and be as much objective as possible and project it in a neutral manner. But still somewhere your own views get included. I hope that the criticism doesn't get too contentious," Prakash Jha said.
The filmmaker, who has made political and social issue based films set mostly in rural areas or small towns with Bollywood A-listers, says a lot of effort goes into deconstructing their urban image and moulding them into the character.
"I don't expect any of my actors to know about the issues that I deal with in my films. It is my duty to inform them. I have a lot of discussions, reading sessions with my actors before going on set. I talk about the history, the characters. It is the same exercise, be it with Ajay Devgn or Abhay Deol," he added.
