Los Angeles:
Troubled Hollywood star Charlie Sheen has got an unusual tattoo etched on his chest, in tribute to his father, actor Michael Sheen.
The Two and a Half Men star says that the inking, which says 'Death from Above' alongside an apple and a drop of blood, is in honour of the acting legend.
Sheen said that his new tattoo is a tribute to his father's 1979 cult war film 'Apocalypse Now', during a radio interview on The Alex Jones Show, reported Los Angeles Times online.
"It's the banner from the death card that Kilgore is throwing on his victims, but there's also falling from it, the apple from the Giving Tree. There's my life. Deal with it," he said.
Kilgore was played by Robert Duvall in the film, while Martin Sheen starred as Vietnam veteran officer Captain Willard.
But Sheen also made reference to Marlon Brando's character Colonel Walter Kurtz, saying, "I'm not just my dad. I'm putting up the river to kill another part of me, which is Kurtz. I'm every character in between, save for that little
weirdo with his guts strapped in, begging for water. That's not me. But there are parts of me that are Dennis Hopper."
The epic war film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, was set during the Vietnam War with Martin Sheen playing the lead role of Captain Benjamin L.Willard, who is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade.
The film became famed for its troubled production on set, as Sheen suffered a heart attack while Marlon Brando gained a lot of weight during filming.
Sheen was 12-years-old when his father made the movie and was on location with Martin in the Philippines when he suffer the heart attack.
Apocalypse Now turned out to be a hit though and went on to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Drama and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
