Los Angeles:
Actor Charlie Sheen has pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from a Christmas Day
dispute with his wife and has been ordered to spend 30 days in rehab.
The decision was part of a plea deal at a court hearing, in exchange of which, two other charges were dropped, People magazine reported.
The 44-year-old actor was also sentenced to three months probation and must complete 36 hours of domestic violence counseling.
However during the courtroom hearing, Sheen looked upbeat and when he was asked to enter a plea, he told the judge, "Guilty as charged your honor."
Asked why he was submitting that plea, he replied, "Because I'm guilty."
"I'm very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court's decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me," Sheen said in a statement.
His attorney, Yale Galanter, is pleased with the case's outcome and said, "Charlie got a great sentence, and I am privileged to have been able to do this for him."
The Two and a Half Men star had previously pleaded not guilty to felony menacing, criminal mischief and assault against his wife Brooke Mueller Sheen, who told police he had pinned her down and threatened her with a knife.
"I am not a fortune teller so I can't be sure what will happen between them. But Charlie goes back to work tomorrow. He wants to move on with his life in a positive way," Galanter said.
