Acclaimed Chinese filmmaker ZhangYimou, the man behind movies like Curse of The Golden Flowerand House of Flying Daggers, will be awarded the LifetimeAchievement award at the upcoming 14th Mumbai Film Festival.
Considered to be one of China's most prominent directors,the 60-year-old prolific director and actor is in the leagueof select oriental filmmakers who have successfully made atransition to mainstream Western cinema.
Yimou has been conferred several notable internationalaccolades including the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes for hisfilm To Live, the Technical Grand Prize for ShanghaiTriad, the BAFTA's for To Live and Raise the Red Lanternand four different awards at the Berlin Film Festival.
In addition to his cinematic achievements, Yimou alsodirected the opening and closing ceremonies for the BeijingSummer Olympic Games in 2008, which received widespread globalacclaim.
The Mumbai Film Festival, an initiative by MAMI, has beenknown to honour cinematic legends who have contributed toenriching the art and craft of cinema in varied capacities.
It is being held between October 18 and 25 this year.The recipient of this award at the 12th and 13th MumbaiFilm Festival were director Oliver Stone and actor MorganFreeman respectively.
