Cinematographer Ashok Mehta cremated
Mumbai: The last rites of noted cinematographer Ashok Mehta were performed in Mumbai on Friday (August 17) afternoon.

Mr Mehta, who passed away on Aug 15 after suffering from advanced lung cancer, was cremated around 1.30 pm at the Municipal Hindu Smashan Bhoomi in Santa Cruz. He was 65. (Photos: Bollywood says farewell to Ashok Mehta )

A bevy of Bollywood celebrities were present to pay their last respects to one of the country's best cinematographers, among them Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Shashi Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Manisha Koirala, Gulshan Grover, Farah Khan, Arshad Warsi, Raza Murad and Govind Nihalani.



Model turned actor Arjun Rampal, who considered Mr Mehta his mentor and credits him for encouraging him to become an actor, helped carry Mr Mehta's body to be cremated.

Ashok Mehta was known for shooting films like Bandit Queen, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Utsav, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak and MF Husain's Gaja Gamini.




He directed Arjun Rampal and Manisha Koirala in Moksha. He also wrote a number of films and even acted in some.
