Angelina Jolie, who is all set toportray Egyptian queen Cleopatra, a role popularised byHollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor, says her portrayal willhave more substance.
The 1963 film, on the set of which Taylor met RichardBurton, her future husband, was the most expensive movie ofits time and was made on a budget of $44 million.
Jolie, 35, however, says that the new version, to bedirected by David Fincher of Social Network fame, aims topaint a more accurate portrait, the Telegraph reported.
"She (Cleopatra) has been very misunderstood. Ithought it was all about the glamour, but then I read abouther and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languagesand she was a leader," Jolie said.
The producer, Scott Rudin, conceived the film withJolie in mind. Taylor herself was reportedly not pleased.Insiders have said that she rebuffed Jolie's attempts to gether blessing for the project and hated the idea of the filmbeing remade.
Jolie too is aware of the comparisons with the screenlegend and plans to approach the role differently.
"My performance will never be as lovely asElizabeth's. We are trying to get into a different truth abouther as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, becauseshe really wasn't.
"Even this idea of her having many lovers it waspossible that it was only two. She is very interesting, butshe wasn't a great beauty," Jolie said.
