London:
Actor-director Clint Eastwood, who has directed the film version of popular Broadway musical Jersey Boys, says he has never been a fan of The Four Seasons, the '60s band on whose music and career Jersey Boys is based.
Jersey Boys is a 'jukebox musical,' which means it uses previously released songs, and charts the rise and fall of the Frankie Valli-fronted rock group The Four Seasons. (Also read: Clint Eastwood's wife files for divorce)
However, Mr Eastwood, 84, says that he has never admired the music of the '60s, being instead a fan of singers like Nat King Cole and Billy Eckstine from the '40s and '50s.
The legendary Dirty Harry star said in an interview, "I wasn't a big fan of the music that came out of the Sixties but I think The Four Seasons did some great stuff. Can't Take My Eyes Off You was probably the closest thing to a classic song that came out of the Fifties and Sixties."
"I was brought up during the '40s and '50s music-wise, when you had the great singers - the men were Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine and the women were Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Peggy Lee. You were just used to great singers," he said.
Clint Eastwood, who played cattle drover Rowdy Yates in the TV Western series Rawhide which ran from 1959 to 1965, said, "That was one way of doing it without it being distracting." (Also read: Clint Eastwood Reflects on Age, America and Acting)
