Court Issues Summons To Producer And Director Of Endhiran

Chennai: A local court has issued summonsto the director and the producer of Rajinikanth-starrerEndhiran on a complaint alleging that the duo committedoffences under the Copyright Act.

The court asked the duo to appear before it on June24.

Tamil writer Aarur Tamilnadan filed the complaintbefore the Metropolitan Magistrate of Egmore seeking adirection to punish them under the Copyright Act and forcheating.

Tamilnadan said that he wrote a short story Jugibawhich was published in a Tamil monthly magazine IniyaUdayam in April 1996.

He claimed that Endhiran was nothing but his storyand its director S Shankar and producer Kalanithi Maran,managing director of Sun Pictures Private Ltd, had violatedthe copyright act by using his story.

Tamilnadan said though he submitted a complaint topolice, it was treated as closed.The police did not give anything in writing, hecharged.

Because of the "influential background" of thedirector and producer, police were reluctant to register acase, he alleged.
