New Delhi: Rock legend David Bowie's death has prompted a massive outpouring of grief and tributes. Mr Bowie, considered a pioneer of the glam rock era and one of the greatest influences in the history of music, died on January 10 after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69.

On Twitter, fans paid heartfelt homage to Mr Bowie, referencing the personas of Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke that made him such a cultural icon.

Among the most moving tweets was this one from Twitter user Dean Podesta, retweeted several times since.

Much of Mr Bowie's music was space-themed, with titles like Life On Mars and Starman. His first hit Space Oddity was covered in actual orbit by astronaut Chris Hadfield, who performed the song while on board the International Space Station. Commander Hadfield's version was later rescued from a copyright morass with the help of David Bowie himself. Chris Hadfield and British astronaut Tim Peake tweeted:

Fans of space opera Star Wars tweeted about The Man Who Fell To Earth:

There were suggestions on how best to honour, remember and celebrate him.

There will never be another David Bowie, but there will always be the memory of him and the light he brought into this world will warm it forever.
