David Dhawan says he wants to focus on realistic cinema
New Delhi: After giving the industry some ofits hit comedies, veteran filmmaker David Dhawan says he wantsto bid adieu to slapstick films and make meaningful films.Dhawan, 52, who is behind films like Raja Babu, CoolieNo. 1, Judwaa, Biwi No 1 and many more, said the newfilmmakers have inspired him to make cinema which is morerealistic and at the same time entertaining.

"After directing 40 films in my career till now, I want tomake films which are more realistic. Our industry is goingthrough the best phase and this young generation is extremelytalented. This is the time for experimental cinema. I am alsofollowing the same trend and have decided not to make mindlesscomedies. I want to make meaningful and entertaining films,"Dhawan told PTI.

Dhawan is making a comeback after a gap of four years withChashme Buddoor remake and for the first time he did notcast his lucky charms Govinda, Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor.The film will see a bevy of young talents including AliZafar, Taapsee Pannu and Divyendu Sharma. It also starssouthern star Siddharth, who made his debut with Aamir Khanstarrer Rang De Basanti in 2006.

"I was enjoying a small break from films in these years.One day the studio bosses of Viacom 18 Motion Picturesapproached me and asked me to make a remake of 1981 filmChashme Buddoor. I agreed to do that because it was a hit ofthat time and was close to my heart because the then actors inthe film are good friends of mine.

"I changed the script with writer Sai Paranjpye almosteighty per cent and gave it a today's feel. I scouted foractors and think I have got best of the lot. They all areextremely talented and keen to learn actors," Dhawan said.Chashme Buddoor will release on April 5, the day onwhich the original film was released 32 years ago.

Dhawan's last release was Rascals which starred AjayDevgn and Sanjay Dutt and was a major dud at the box-office.He says the loose script of the film was the main reason behindits failure.

"There were many things that went wrong in the film majorbeing the script. It was not in sync with today's time," thedirector said.

Dhawan is excited with the way his sons' - Rohit and Varun- careers in the Bollywood are shaping up. Rohit made hisdebut as a director with Desi Boys and Varun entered theindustry with Karan Johar's Student of the Year.

"I am proud of my sons. They didn't take my help to launchthem. I was always with them as a guiding light. Varun has gota dream start with Karan's film and Rohit gave a hit DesiBoys with his first film," he said.

Dhawan is working next with his son Varun in Main TeraHero. It is an entertaining film and is being produced byEkta Kapoor.
