New Delhi:
Her surroundings whispered history. As she held a special screening of her song from Bajirao Mastani for Jaipur's royals at the iconic City Palace, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone described the experience as 'surreal.' (Also Read: Deewani Deepika is Fascinating in New Bajirao Mastani Song)
The actress was photographed with Rajmata Padmini Devi wife of Jaipur's last maharaja, late Brigadier Bhawani Singh, and with their daughter, princess Diya Kumari. It was the first time that a film song was showcased in City Palace.
Princess Diya Kumari also tweeted pictures of the event
With a history dating back to over two centuries, the palace was also the home of late Rajmata Gayatri Devi, a woman described 'as one of the most beautiful in the world'.
Deepika said at the press conference, "What has happened is very very unique, normally this happens in theatres and press conferences. I am extremely thankful for this hospitality. I can't even believe that the film is ready for release."
Earlier in the day, she also flagged off an annual polo match between two royal families in the Pink City.
She made a grand entrance escorted by elephants and trumpets:
Conspicuous by their absence were the film's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lead actor Ranveer Singh, who are currently winding up the shoot in Pune.
Bajirao Mastani casts Ranveer Singh as the Maratha leader Peshwa Bajirao, Deepika Padukone as his warrior queen Mastani and Priyanka Chopra as his first wife Kashibai. The film is scheduled to release on December 18.
