Salem: A Tamil outfit headed by filmdirector Kalanjiyam today filed a defamation case againstsouthern actress Anjali in a court here over her recentremarks accusing him of harassment.(Read: Anjali, the "missing" Southern actress, appears before police )
In his petition before Judicial Magistrate II, Murugan,Secretary of the local unit of Tamizhar Nalam Periyakkam(movement for Tamils welfare), submitted that Kalanjiyam hadbeen working for the welfare of Tamils and the remarks by theactress had hurt the sentiments of his followers.
He sought to punish Anjali for defamation under IPCsections 499 and 500 besides 505 (statements conducing topublic mischief).
Magistrate Lakshmi posted the matter to May 13. The petitioner submitted that the actress, who went missingbriefly last month, had complained that her stepmother andKalanjiyam were harassing her and using her as an ATM, chargeswhich were rejected by them later.
Kalanjiyam himself had filed a defamation suit againstAnjali on April 9 for charging him with baseless allegations. Anjali acted in hit Tamil films Engaeyum Eppothum andAngaadi Theru besides the multi-starrer Telugu movieSeethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.
