Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who is all set for the release of his next film Department, says the movie is distinct from his past projects Satya and Company, and claims that it caters to the masses.
"Department is not based on gangsters. But yes with Department, we are talking about the police department and with police department and somewhere gangsters are also there," the 50-year-old said here.
"Having said that, the film's format is very different from Company and Satya. It is more of a mass entertainer format," he added.
Department, releasing May 18, features Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.
An item number Dan dan cheeni from the film is already creating waves. The song features Brazilian model Nathalia Kaur.
