Dibakar Banerjee should not have a reason to be miffed with the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC). In a refreshing departure from the norm, the Board has granted his film, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, a U/A certificate with only some cuts.
Shravan Kumar, CEO of the CBFC, said, "A screening was held for the Examining Committee, which recommended the grant of a U/A certificate with excisions. No request for constitution of Revising Committee has been made by the producers as on this date."
Mr Banerjee says there was no reason to go to the Revising Committee.
"Almost nothing was cut. Just a couple of fights, we were asked to reduce the length of those fights. I happily did that. I had absolutely no problems with the kissing or any of the other important scenes," he said.
Known for films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Shanghai, Mr Banerjee says he has almost never had any problem with the censor board.
"Not even in a politically volatile film like Shanghai. Only once have I had a quibble with the censor board. It was for Love Sex Aur Dhokha, where they knocked off a reference to a caste situation. That apart, the CBFC has always been fair to me."
"I know it is fashionable to criticise the censor board. But sorry I don't have any horror story of my own."
