Panaji:
Two days after Ajay Devgn denied smoking in prohibited area in Goa, a senior official of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) said the Bollywood actor was spotted puffing in a no-smoking zone in its premises where sign boards have been installed, warning people against it.
"Ajay was found puffing cigarettes in the no-smoking area. We have displayed proper boards there. As per law, it is banned to smoke there. Devgn must not have seen the boards," ESG Chief Executive Officer Manoj Srivastava told PTI.
He said the premises run by the society is a public place where smoking is strictly banned. ESG is a Goa government formed body which hosts the IFFI event annually here.
Devgn was found smoking in ESG's courtyard in May this year, during the shooting for his upcoming film Golmaal 3 and subsequently slapped with a fine of Rs 100 by Goa police.
The State Directorate of Health Services (DHS) had filed a complaint with local police based on photographs, submitted by a anti-tobacco GO--National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE)-- which showed the actor smoking.
After being fined for violating the Anti-Tobacco Act, the 41-year-old actor told reporters in Mumbai that he has this bad habit of smoking and he wants to get rid of it.
"As you are asking about Goa, I don't want to discuss this but I would like to say that smoking was allowed in the place where I was doing that," he said at the relaunch of the 'Jagrut Mumbaikar' campaign of Mumbai police on September 6.
Devgn is the brand ambassador of the drive. General Secretary Shekhar Salkar today said the ESG premises is a public place where smoking is not allowed.
"I have read Devgn's statement in the newspaper. I am happy that he's aware that there are places where smoking is prohibited. The only thing is that he should have verified with people around whether he is standing in a smoking or no smoking zone," Salkar said.
