Chennai: National Award-winning Kaakka Muttai, has become the first non-Kannada film to go tax-free in Karnataka, according to the movie's distributors.

"We are thrilled to announce that (the) film has got a tax free status in Karnataka. We at Fox Star Studios would like to thank the (Karnataka) state government for extending support to our film," Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, which distributed the film, said in a statement.

It is the first non-Kannada film to be given such a concession, the statement claimed.

Kakka Muttai is the heart-warming story of two slum kids' struggles to lay their hands on a pizza, and the film has not only received critical acclaims but also set the cash registers ringing for the producers, actor Dhanush and director Vetrimaran.

The movie, directed by debutante M Manikandan, bagged two National awards - Best Children's Film and Best Child Artist for the lead pair, besides doing well in international film circuits.
