Honey Singh said he had not authored the lyrics that are being attributed to him

Rapper Honey Singh, who was forcedto cancel his scheduled New Year's Eve show following protestsin the backdrop of gang-rape incident, today sought to wash hishands off the controversy triggered by offensive lyrics insome of his songs.
Honey Singh, 28, who has sung for several Bollywood movies,said he had not authored the lyrics that are being attributedto him.The lyrics have been termed offensive towards women byactivists, who have started an online campaign against Singh.An FIR has also been lodged against the rapper in Lucknow.When contacted Singh's manager Anup Kumar claimed thatthe Gurgaon show was cancelled not because of the protests butin solidarity with the Delhi gang-rape victim.
"We did not cancel the show because of this petitionand FIR. We cancelled it in the wake of Delhi gang-rape issue.This is not the first concert we are cancelling in Delhi afterthat horrific incident. We had also cancelled our muchpublicised December 25 event," Kumar told PTI.
Bristol Hotel, however, disputed Singh's version, sayingit was the management and not Singh, who decided to cancel theperformance.Singh has also issued a public notice claiming that he isnot the author of those lyrics.
"Honey Singh wishes to clarify through this notice thathe has no connection whatsoever with the said songs. My clienthas already written to various digital platforms toimmediately take down the video/songs and is also consideringappropriate legal action for defamation, loss of reputationand violation of privacy," a notice by lawyer Pragyan PradipSharma, on behalf of Singh, read.
The FIR against Singh was lodged by Gomti Nagar police onthe complaint of IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, police sourcessaid in Lucknow. The FIR was registered under sections 292,293 and 294 of the IPC that are related to obscenity offences.An online petition is also doing the rounds against Singhby Kalpana Misra via change.org who appealed for a ban on hisperformance.
"These pornographic lyrics are unacceptable and it isbecause of women-hating sentiments like these that men thinkthat it's fine to do what they did on that bus, that Decembernight in Delhi.
"Let's put a stop to these subversive lyrics thatinfiltrate the minds of people who don't know better and whothen justify to themselves the rightness of a crime that harmsanother human being, sometimes so severely that they losetheir lives," the petition stated.
Outrage against the rapper and his derogatory songs havebeen pouring on social networking sites like Facebook andTwitter for the past few days.
Singh raps mostly in a mix of English and Punjabi and haslent his voice in recent Bollywood films like Khiladi 786,Cocktail and Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana.
