New Delhi:
Actor Anoop Soni, who has been part of films like Gangaajal, Dus Kahaniyaan and Apaharan, is concentrating more on television these dayssaying he did not enjoy his stint in Bollywood.
The actor began his career with roles in television shows such as Sea Hawks and Saaya. He then took a break fromthe small screen to work in films but was not happy with the kind of roles being offered to him.
"I did a lot of shows for the small screen and then I realised that I was devoting too much time to TV. I thought Ishould also try my luck in films because I didn't want to regret it later. I started doing films and was part of quite afew good ones but didn't quite enjoy doing them. I decided to return to TV," Soni said.
The actor is currently starring in popular TV shows like Balika Vadhu and Comedy Circus.
Soni also hosts Crime Patrol- Dastak, based on real life incidents but he says that it is more than just a crime show.
"It is a show to make people aware of what is happening around them. Had it just been a crime show it would not havebeen so popular. Ninety-nine per cent of the show is fact and rest five per cent is fiction as it is important for the story. We dealwith only human interest stories and I get personally attached to all the cases that we show on screen," said Soni.
Soni, who married actor-politician Raj Babbar's daughter Juhi last year, is also active in theatre and said, of all thethree media, theatre is the most challenging.
"Theatre is good exercise for an actor. You get the reaction of the audience then and there. But theatre is themost challenging of all as there is no scope for retakes," he said.
Soni, who is an alumnus of National School of Drama (NSD), said that being part of the institute has helped himsay no to mediocre work.
"I don't like to do run-of-the-mill stuff. As a product of NSD our upbringing is such that we don't do mediocre work.I want to do different shows because frankly, even I want to get noticed. I can't do the same thing again and again," he said.
