New Delhi:
Bollywood's latest release Dil Dhadakne Do, directed by Zoya Akhtar sailed through the first day of box office with safety, by minting a little more than Rs 10 crore.
Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted:
The film starring Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Shefali Shah opened to mixed reviews on June 5.
In his review for NDTV, Saibal Chaterjee writes, "It is an overly caramelised and flaky dysfunctional family drama that strives - and fails - to strike a balance between the sly and the syrupy." He added, "Dil Dhadakne Do is a snoozefest and a surefire cure for insomnia." He gave the film two-and-a-half star rating. However, film critic Anupama Chopra gave the film 3.5 stars out of five and recommended it as a much watch.
Dil Dhadakne Do will also be screened at the ongoing International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards on June 6. The entire star cast along with director Zoya Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani are currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the event.
The box office tables have turned for good for Bollywood. After Piku and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the film has managed a decent collection on the first day.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut's Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which has now entered in its third week, closed at Rs 116 crore collections last week:
Deepika Padukone's Piku too is still a favourite amongst moviegoers:
Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted:
#DilDhadakneDo picked up at plexes towards evening shows. Fri Rs 10.53 cr. India biz. Sat and Sun biz needs to grow to post a good total.
