Panaji: Actress Divya Dutta said that at a time when everything is easily available online, the relevance of censorship in movies in the country is questionable.

The 38-year-old actress said that she agrees with filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who recently said that censorship should be abolished.

The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actress also said that the audience should have the right to choose what they want to watch.

"I think 'intolerance' has become a taboo for everyone. If you talk about censorship then I agree with Benegal. Cinema is a creative medium. The director has the right to express. In the times of social media, with everything on internet just a click away, I wonder how censoring a few things could help," Divya told PTI on the sidelines of IFFI. "The audience is very sorted. We know what we want and we should get the freedom to choose what we want to watch," she added.

Commenting on the ongoing debate in the film industry about the gender pay disparity, Divya said that she supports Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut, who are in favour of equal pay.

"We live in a demand and supply industry. You give them a hit they will give you the money. Today if the top actresses like Kangana and Deepika may be charging more or as much as their co-stars, then it is fine because they are delivering hits. For me, it has always been more of cinema and less of these so it doesn't concern me. But, we have some highly paid actresses and I am proud of them," she said."
