Instead of a red carpet event, only a private screening will now take place
Los Angeles: The planned Hollywood premiereof Quentin Tarantino's much-anticipated film DjangoUnchained has been cancelled after Newtown shootings.

Instead of a red carpet event, only a private screeningwill now take place out of respect for those killed in lastweek's shootings in Newtown, reported Ace Showbiz.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of thetragedy in Newtown, CT, and in this time of national mourningwe have decided to forgo our scheduled event," The WeinsteinCompany said in a statement.

"However, we will be holding a private screening for thecast and crew and their friends and families."

Django Unchained stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx,Christoph Waltz and Don Johnson.

The movie follows a slave whose wife is taken by a brutalMississippi plantation owner.

However a source said the cancellation of the premiere isnot directly related to depictions of violence in the movie.

Django Unchained will hit theatres in the US onDecember 25, and will open on January 13, 2013 in the UK.
