Mumbai:
Filmmaker Vipul Shah says that he felt the urge to try his hand at acting after watching rehearsals of his Hindi play Bas Itna sa Khwab...! starring his wife Shefali.
"I believe doing theatre is a cleansing process because the drive for perfection starts reducing when you do too many films," Vipul, who is the presenter of the play, told PTI.
"In theatre, there is no option but to give your best. When I watched Shefali, director Chandrakant Kulkarni and actor Kiran Karmarkar at rehearsals, I also thought of acting as this is the only way to get your concentration right and stronger which we start losing in the razzmatazz of films," he added.
Bas Itna Sa Khwab! is the Hindi adaptation of Kulkarni's Marathi play Dhyanimani which was a commercial success as well as critically acclaimed.
The play, a socio-psychological thriller starred Neena Kulkarni, who was last seen in silver screen as Amitabh Bachchan's wife in Rann and Shivaji Satam who is well-known for his role as ACP Pradyuman of teleseries CID.
Vipul said he had seen the Marathi play and it was the best he had seen in the last 25 years.
"Fifteen years have passed, but Dhyanimani is still fresh in my memory. It was a great experience," he said.
