Dum Maaro Dum Faces Another Legal Hurdle

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court issued notices to Centre and Censor Board asking them to reply within three weeks on a PIL seeking ban on Abhishek Bachchan starrer Dum Maaro Dum.

A bench comprising Chief Justice FI Rebello and Justice Devendra Kumar Arora passed this order on a PIL filed by lawyers Rohit Tripathi and Tripuresh Tripathi.

The two requested the court to issue directives to the Producer and Director of the film Dum Maaro Dum to change the name of the film as it encourages drug abuse. They also want the title song to be suitably modified so that it falls under the "purview of morality and decency".

The film, they claim was found to be inciting, an offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Set in the backdrop of Goa and its drug underbelly, the film releases on April 22. The movie, which also stars Bipasha Basu in lead role, had evoked public protests in Goa over its negative portrayal of the tourist state.
