Panaji: Makers of East is East and West is West have announced that there will be a third filmin the hit comedy franchise, titled East is West.

The cross-cultural comedy West is West opened the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010 and the muchawaited British film will release in India in February, 2011.

"East is West is my baby. Work has already begun on the script. But if you force a film, it never works. I maymake the film in the next two years though," Leslee Udwin, the producer of the franchise said.

But the producer said that she was hurt when 40 per cent of the audience left the hall midway into the screeningof the movie, starring Bollywood veteran Om Puri, Illa Arun, Aqib Khan and Linda Basett.

The producer was upset by the apathy shown by the audience, which was largely made of government officials.

"What happened on the opening night was that most of the audience was made of government officials and 40 per centof these people left the auditorium during the movie. I guess they were not here to see the movie," said Udwin.

"It was a bit of a shock to see people leave midway. I still need to get used to it because this film like a babyto me and I expected more respect for the opening film," she added.

The film made in a budget of Rs 14 crore, was shot in Punjab, though it's story is set in Pakistan.

"Pakistan has not got the profile of the safest place in the world. Under no circumstances, would the insurer haveallowed us to shoot in Pakistan," said Udwin.

The film picks up where East is East ends. The 1999 film had vividly charted the conflicts of a mixed-racePakistani-English family and went on to win a BAFTA for Outstanding British film.

It sees the return of Puri as the charismatic George Khan, determined to instill some discipline and culturalidentity into his son Sajid, played by newcomer Aqib Khan. The film sees Sajid, the youngest son played by AqibKhan, introduced to the father's first family in Pakistan.
