London:
Rock and Roll king Elvis Presley's hugely popular biopic has been released in its unedited form in the UK to mark his 75th birth anniversary.
Simply named Elvis, the film has been released on DVD and Blu-ray, more than three decades after it was first broadcast on a US TV channel in 1979, reported The Telegraph.
An edited version of the film had a limited release in British cinemas back then, and it also briefly appeared as a video title. But it was abruptly withdrawn for legal reasons involving music rights.
The title role has been played by Kurt Russell, then only 27 and best known as a former child actor. The film has been directed by John Carpenter and has actress Season Hubley playing his young wife, Priscilla.
The film begins in 1969, with Presley about to go on stage for a comeback concert in Las Vegas, after many years without performing live. He is jittery, moody, and afraid he may be the subject of an assassination attempt. Then it flashes back to Elvis as a boy of 10 in Tupelo, Mississippi, and the very start of his interest in music.
Russell was rewarded with an Emmy nomination for his performance in Elvis and it ushered in his film career as a grown-up.
