A still from the trailer of Independence Day: Resurgence
New Delhi:
20 years later, the aliens are back and spoiling for a fight in the first look of Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to the 1996 sci-fi blockbuster. The two-minute clip is packed with stunning visual effects, action sequences and powerful dialogues. (Also Read: Independence Day Sequel Brings Back Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch)
"We are fighting for our freedom, from annihilation. We will not go quietly into the night, we will not vanish without a fight," they ominously warn in the trailer which released on Sunday night. Independence Day was among the top trends on Twitter while this was being written.
'Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction,' the tagline of the trailer reads. "Oh my god! I spent 20 years trying to get us ready for this. We used our technology to strengthen our planet but I guess theis won't be enough. They're coming back," says Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson, who has been helping the world use alien technology to prepare for another attack. Australian heartthrob Liam Hemsworth also leads from the front in the battle against the aliens. As do Bill Pullman, Vivica A Fox, and Judd Hirsch who reprise their roles from the original.
Conspicuous by his absence is actor Will Smith's Col Steven Hiller who reportedly opted out of the film due to Fox's refusal to provide the exorbitant salary demanded by him for two sequels. Director Roland Emmerich had confirmed in a 2013 interview to Daily News that the actor would not be returning for the sequel because he "was too expensive."
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24, 2016.
