An odd sort of war of words, if you will, has been playing out on several social media frontlines – Instagram, Twitter and now Reddit. The opposing factions are Neetu Kapoor, mother of Ranbir, and Suzanne Turquotte, mother of Katrina Kaif. Both moms shared cryptic posts on their Ins tagram accounts and the Internet jury is out on whether or not it was actually an exchange of hostilities. It all began when Neetu Kapoor shared a meme on her Instagram Stories which read: "Just because he dated you for 7 years, it doesn't mean he will marry you. My uncle studied medicine for 6 years, now he is a DJ." Nobody would have thought anything of it – had Neetu Kapoor's son Ranbir and Katrina not dated for about seven years.

However, Katrina Kaif fans on social media were quick to take offence at Neetu Kapoor's post, seeing it as being directed at the Phone Bhoot actress who is now married to Vicky Kaushal. Ms Kapoor once cropped Katrina out of a family photo and several tweets shared after her Instagram Story was shared rejected the possibility that this was a random post. "Years after the breakup she is still taunting her," read an outraged tweet. The photo crop was brought up as was Deepika Padukone, who dated Ranbir Kapoor before Katrina.

The fire, once lit, is now raging on Instagram and Reddit after Katrina's mother Suzanne Turquotte also posted a quote, this one reading: "I was raised to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO." Ms Turquotte's account is not verified but is followed by Katrina's sister Isabelle Kaif and stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania. Comments on the post have assumed that it is a response to Neetu Kapoor's supposed diss. "This is the difference between you and her," read one comment. "Perfect reply, mama mode on," read another.
The mother-off, if it is that, is being discussed hotly on a sub-Reddit, Opinion is divided on whether or not Suzanne Turquotte's post was a "general statement" or "shots fired."

Both Katrina and Ranbir, who reportedly started dating while filming 2009 movie Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, have moved on – Katrina married Vicky Kaushal in December 2021, Ranbir married Alia Bhatt in April 2022 and their daughter Raha was born in November.
