New Delhi:
Director Farah Khan excavated an old picture of herself with disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and was promptly flooded with comments asking if she had 'escaped unscathed' from his attentions. Mr Weinstein, once a powerful studio boss, fell swiftly from favour in the last few weeks after being accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women. Yesterday, on #ThrowbackThursday, Farah Khan tweeted a picture of herself giving Harvey Weinstein 'Bollywood gyaan' on the sets of 2004's Main Hoon Na, the first film Farah directed. She didn't explain how Mr Weinstein came to be on her film set but hashtagged the post #beforetheshithitthefan.
In the comment, Farah Khan has been asked if Harvey Weinstein 'hit on (her) too' and if he 'behaved properly.' One comment reads - "The way he's looking at you gives me the creeps." Another suggested he need not Bollywood gyaan but on keeping his testosterone surge at bay.'
Other users, clearly not fans of Farah Khan's cinema, speculated that the choreographer-director's gyaan and film script had sent Harvey Weinstein scampering back to USA.
Harvey Weinstein's undoing began with two separate investigative reports by The New Yorker and New York Times revealing multiple accusations of sexual harassment and rape against the producer. The charges piled up as more women came forward over the next few days, among them actresses Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale and other marquee names.
In addition to the police investigations Harvey Weinstein is facing, he has also been fired by the company he co-founded and ousted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the BAFTAs and other Hollywood bodies. His wife, designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him. Weinsteingate has also encouraged others to come forward with stories of sexual abuse - actor Kevin Spacey has been dropped from TV shows and films after multiple allegations of misconduct in the post-Weinstein weeks.
The Indian film industry, where the casting couch is a dirty secret few are willing to acknowledge, has remained largely tight-lipped on scandal-shaken Hollywood.
