Film producers warn theatres against over-pricing tickets

Chennai: Accusing some theatres in TamilNadu of over-pricing movie tickets, the Tamil Film Producers'Council (TFPC) today said it would demand cancellation of thelicenses of exhibitors failing to comply with governmentrules.

"While the government has fixed ticket rates betweenRs 40-50, some theatres are charging even upto Rs 200. Variousindustry bodies such as the TFPC, Theatres' Association orDistributors' Federation would not allow this," the TFPC saidin a resolution at its General Council here.

Chaired by its President Rama Narayanan, the councilsaid theatres overcharging the viewers were doing it with theintention of bringing "disrepute" to the government."Cinema houses should charge only governmentstipulated rates. If not, the TFPC will demand cancellation oftheir licences," the resolution said.

Movie goers can also file complaint with the police orone of the aforesaid organisations if any theatre overcharged,it said.

The industry would go in for cost-cutting, anotherresolution said. Measures in this regard would be taken afterconsulting other bodies like Film Employees' Federation ofSouth India (FEFSI), South Indian Artistes' Association andothers, it said.
