A still from Dil Dhadakne Do
New Delhi:
Bollywood film Dil Dhadakne Do has almost set sail; and with a little help from the Mehras, Farah Ali and Sunny, the ship intends to leave port with the right amount of fun, laughter, drama and emo.
The film's trailer and songs, and the Mehras' Twitter call-outs promise a fun trip. The suspense over the fifth Mehra, Pluto - is he voiced by Aamir Khan or not? - and the camaraderie between the stars while on publicity duty makes us happy that its June 5. (Movie Review: Dil Dhadakne Do)
Add to that the fact films like Luck By Chance and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara have anchored Zoya Akhtar's spot as one of the industry's top filmmakers today. If all this wasn't reason enough to fill a theatre seat, we give you five more things to look forward to while watching the film, which features Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Shefali Shah.
1. Anil Kapoor Has Grey (Gasp) Hair
58-year-old Anil Kapoor's preternatural youthfulness has been an enigma for fans and colleagues alike. But here, for the first time, he sports Zoya Akhtar-induced grey hair. We might never see him grey off-screen so this screen version is worth watching. (Also Read: Anil Kapoor Nothing Like Dil Dhadakne Do's Kamal Mehra, Says His Daughter Sonam)
Silver hair or no, the film's trailer and songs prove that he matches the energy of younger actors Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar.
What can we say? You can make him look old, but he is forever young. Maska Hai, Maska... Ekdam Jhakaas.
2. The Mehras are Really Funny
We know that the motley group of four form the dysfunctional Mehra family, but we also know that they are very funny. Mr Mehra tries to emotionally blackmail his son into marrying (Plane chahihye ki nahin tumhe?). His logic when measuring the compatibility level of his daughter and son-in-law is this - Kaise incompatible ho? Tum dono Punjabi ho, squash khelte ho. And it's hard to beat this interaction with his wife:
3. The Anushka-Ranveer Factor
Director Zoya Akhtar told NDTV in an interview recently that after casting Ranveer Singh as Kabir Mehra, actress Anushka Sharma was the 'natural choice' for the role of Farah Ali - Kabir's love interest. The actor too insisted that he shares the best chemistry onscreen with his Band Baajaa Baarat co-star.
We don't disagree and after watching this you won't either:
4. The Scenic Value
In an interview to NDTV, Shefali Shah admitted that the cruise trip was a contributing factor for her signing up for Dil Dhadakne Do. And, if you've seen Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, you know how beautifully Zoya selects locations. Moviegoers will not just be entertained by the cruise members but also the scenery that has attached itself to the film.
5. Pluto Mehra
This dog doesn't bite, he has a story to bark instead. The Mastiff in the film is reportedly the talebearer of the Mehras. He is also the only non-dysfunctional Mehra with a take of his own on his adoptive family. He accompanies them on the cruise and keeps a track of their story for the audience's sake, dealing first-hand with the Mehra madness so that we don't have to.
