Five Reasons to Watch Shahid Kapoor's Haider

Five Reasons to Watch Shahid Kapoor's Haider
New Delhi: While actor Hrithik Roshan's Bang Bang is one contender for the weekend movie bonanza, Shahid Kapoor's Haider is the one it may be facing a stiff competition from.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Haider boasts of a stellar cast starring Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan and Shraddha Kapoor. The film is making a lot of news for excellent performances delivered by all the actors especially Shahid Kapoor.

The revenge tragedy film based on Shakespeare's Hamlet has its USP(s) too. Take a look:

Shahid and Vishal Bhardwaj Combo:

The last time actor Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj teamed up they made a film marvel, Kaminey. Though the two reportedly had a fallout post the film, due to creative differences, they have finally collaborated again after a gap of five years. Haider's trailer shows a lot of promise.

Tabu Returns in a Significant Role:

Actress Tabu has been the highlight of almost every film she has been a part of. The actress gave a great performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool and we are sure that her acting finesse has been put to good use by the director yet again. Unlike her previous release in 2014, Jai Ho, where she appeared in a cameo (and yet made her screen presence felt), Tabu will be seen in a much larger and poignant role in Haider - that of Gertude, who marries her brother-in-law (portrayed by Kay Kay Menon) soon after he kills her husband (Irrfan Khan). Her turbulent relation with her son Haider (Shahid Kapoor), who has come to avenge his father's death, is something to watch out for.

The Shakespearian Angle:

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has reinterpreted Shakespearean tragedies in the Indian context multiple times over. He did it with Omkara and Maqbool and is on it again with Haider. The characters and politics created by the director mimic the angst of the characters sketched by Shakespeare albeit in a completely different time and location which makes for Mr Bhardwaj's unrivalled craft.

For Shahid Kapoor:

Actor Shahid Kapoor confessed that Haider has been his toughest and best performance till date. The actor has given quite a few astounding performances in films like Kaminey and Jab We Met, among others. But we agree with Shahid, who seems excellent in the scenes from the film's trailer. The actor in fact also resonates his father, actor Pankaj Kapur's, acting skills in a few shots and that is saying something.

Kashmir:

Although many films have been shot in the state-paradiso, Vishal Bhardwaj's portrayal of Kashmir is bound to be unconventional. Shakespeare's play Hamlet, which is set in Denmark under political distress, has been recreated in Kashmir keeping the current political unrest and angst of the state in mind.
