Mumbai:
Canada-based Indian singer Raghav Mathur, who lent his voice to Ishq Shava in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, hopes that the Indian entertainment industry realises that there is more to music than just Bollywood.
"The music is amazing, however, the lack of a pop industry and independent artists creates an unhealthy monopoly that can only stunt the future of great artists India has to offer. I hope the Indian entertainment wakes up and realises there is life beyond Bollywood," he told IANS.
Best known for his single Angel Eyes, he has also given popular songs like So Confused, Can't Get Enough and It Can't Be Right.
Having said that, he is enjoying his stint in Bollwyood and says that his dream was to work with Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman and veteran lyricist Gulzar. Thanks to Jab Tak Hai Jaan song, picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, he has managed to fulfil his wish.
"I have met Gulzarji before on a flight to London and mentioned to him then that there were only three people on the earth I truly wished to collaborate with - A R Rahman, he himself and Stevie Wonder... In one track I've hit two out of three," he said.
"This (Ishq Shava) is Rahman's music and concept, however, he encouraged me to bring what I can," he added.
Ishq Shava is Raghav's first playback number and he enjoyed the experience.
"It was kind of nice not writing a song for once and changing roles a bit. As a playback singer you often come in much later in the process than when I'm writing or conceptualising from scratch. It gave me a different perspective and hopefully the song a fresher feel," he said.
Talking about his voice he said it would be suitable for new generation.
"While growing up abroad there are only two (actors) you truly dream of working with - SRK and of course, Amitabh Bachchan. However, I think my voice and styling could offer a new voice to a new generation," he said.
