South megastar Rajinikanth, who will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019, has been receiving congratulatory messages on social media for his big win. Big stars such as Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi Konidela and Mahesh Babu congratulated him on Twitter. Mohanlal, who was one of the jury members in the selection committee of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award along with many other celebrities, congratulated him on Twitter. Mohanlal posted a picture of Rajinikanth on Twitter and called his win "well-deserved recognition" in his tweet. He wrote, "Well-deserved recognition, Congratulations dear Rajinikanth sir for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award #DadasahebPhalkeAward."

Kamal Haasan also congratulated his "dear friend" Rajinikanth on the microblogging platform for the award. He tweeted, "The superstar and my dear friend Rajinikanth, who proved that fans can be won by screen appearances, deserves it 100 per cent." Kamal Haasan has worked with Rajinikanth in films such as Apoorva Raagangal, Moondru Mudichu, 16 Vayathinile and Thillu Millu.

Rajinikanth poured his heart out in his thank-you note written in Tamil. In his note, the megastar expressed gratitude towards the honour and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on the platform. Rajinikanth also thanked his close ones, friends from the industry, media, film technicians in his note.

On Thursday morning, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the news. He tweeted, "Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema...Rajinikanth ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic."
