New Delhi: Meanwhile, Lingaa has had a dry run at the box office. Its distributors have claimed heavy losses amounting to Rs 40 crores and have asked Rajinikanth to help refund them.
Lingaa is directed by K S Ravikumar who also shares writing credits with Pon Kumaran.
The Supreme Court has stayed an order from the Madras High Court in which it directed the producers of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's Lingaa to pay a deposit of Rs 10 crores last month. Lingaa, co-starring Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty, was accused of plagiarism by filmmaker K R Ravi Rathinam.
The Supreme Court has now said, "In a copyright case how can the High Court pass such interim orders?"
Lingaa released on December 12, which was also Rajinikanth's birthday, after producers paid the 10 crore deposit as directed. They then approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's order.
Lingaa is directed by K S Ravikumar who also shares writing credits with Pon Kumaran.
