Toronto:
Pop star Nelly Furtado, who was paid $ 1 million in 2007 to perform at a hotel in Italy for family members of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, is planning to donate the money to charity.
"In 2007, I received 1 million dollar from the Gaddafi clan to perform a 45 min. Show for guests at a hotel in Italy. I am going to donate the money (sic)," Furtado wrote on her Twitter page on Monday.
The Canadian singer's admission comes after the news broke that a number of stars privately performed for Gaddafi and his family in the past five years, reported Toronto Sun.
R&B stars Beyonce and Usher were hired by Gaddafi's son Muatassim to perform for a New Year's Eve bash on the Caribbean island of St Barts, according to the New York Times.
Mariah Carey was reportedly hired for the previous year's bash, and took home a reported USD 1 million for performing just four songs.
