Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 is unstoppable at the box office and the movie created "history" as it emerged the highest grosser ever on Independence Day. The movie earned over Rs 55 crore on Tuesday and this is the highest business a movie has ever registered on Independence day, according to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. With the earning from August 15, Gadar 2 has entered the coveted club of Rs 200 crore. The total earnings of the movie now stand at Rs 228.98 crore. Taran Adarsh has mentioned in his tweet that the movie "faced capacity issues". Not only single theatres, the multiplexes have also been witnessing the Gadar 2 waves as the audience rushing to the theatres to catch a show.
"CREATES HISTORY ON INDEPENDENCE DAY... Highest-ever biz on *15 August*... Yes, #Gadar2 hits the ball out of the stadium on #IndependenceDay... Fri 40.10 cr, Sat 43.08 cr, Sun 51.70 cr, Mon 38.70 cr, Tue 55.40 cr. Total: ₹ 228.98 cr. #India biz... BLOCKBUSTER RUN continues," tweeted Taran Adarsh.
He added, "#Gadar2 faced capacity issues - not just at single screens, but also at multiplexes - on #IndependenceDay... The demand is clearly more than supply in this case, since #OMG2 has taken away a substantial number of screens, shows, footfalls and revenue... Just imagine the potential of #Gadar2 if it was a solo release."

Gadar 2 released to average reviews. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his review of NDTV, gave the film 2 stars out of 5 and he wrote, "Gadar 2 is strictly for three categories of people: Sunny Deol fans, those that miss the unbridled excesses of Bollywood of yore, and those that believe that "hate thy neighbour" is an axiom worth cheering for in a movie theatre. The film has enough to please them all - and then some."
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar. In the sequel Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma have reprised their roles of Tara Singh, Sakeena and Jeete, respectively. The film released in theatres on Friday. It is clashing with Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 at the box office.
