Andrew Garfield says he was touched when Tobey Maguire sent him a message expressing his support for his role in the reboot of Spider-Man. Garfield will replace Maguire as the web-casting hero in the new movie.
The Social Network star says that he is grateful that Maguire reached him through a common friend gave his approval for the replacement, reports Contactmusic. "He gave me his support and it meant a great deal, of course, because a part of the reason I loved this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I'm thankful," said Garfield.
Actress Kirsten Dunst, director Sam Raimi and Maguire quit the franchise earlier this year. A new cast was then hired with Garfield playing the title role opposite Emma Stone.
Scheduled for release on July 3, 2012, the new moviewill focus on Peter Parker's childhood to explain how hebecame Spider Man.
