Goa Women's Commission Expresses Reservations Against Dum Maaro Dum

Panaji: Protests against Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum today got louder here with Goa State Women's Commission (GSWC) taking cognisance of the alleged derogatory references to Goan women in the forthcoming movie.

GSWC Chairman Ezilda Sapeco filed a complaint with the local police urging them to investigate into the movie and said the Commission will monitor the probe.

Sapeco, in the complaint before police, has relied on the trailers of the movie shown on television, expressing the possibility that the movie might be derogatory to Goan women.

She has said that the movie might result in breach of peace in the state.

"The trailer itself says that Goa is a destination for drugs and sex," Sapeco said.

Sippy's flick, which depicts the drug underbelly of the tourist state has raised a stink in Goa with lawmakers, social activists, women welfare groups and now GSWC expressing their reservation on the movie.

Sapeco has said that the movie should not be allowed to be released, till it is screened before the police and the filmmaker is investigated by the authorities.

Besides filing a police complaint, GSWC officials also met State Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik seeking their intervention in the matter.

GSWC sources stated that the CM told the delegation that he is aware of the movie and will ask Police to investigate it.
