Akshay Kumar's Gold has managed to collect over Rs 74.35 crore within six days of its release, reports Box Office India. However, the film's performance was not very impressive on Monday as it earned merely Rs 3.75 crore. According to the report, the film witnessed a drop of about 50-60% on Monday. "Gold had a big drop on Monday as it collected 3.75-4 crore net. The drop is 60% from Friday when the normal drop is 50%. It is the sixth day so you can allow a little bit more than the normal 50% but 60% is going a bit far." stated Box Office India report stated. Gold has left behind John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate, which has collected Rs 53.85 crore as of now.
Gold had a smooth start at the box office. The film collected Rs 25.25 crore on its opening day and Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh had described the film's performance as "extraordinary." Mr Adarsh tweeted: "Gold has an extraordinary day 1... Takes a fab start at multiplexes across major centers... Wed 25.25 cr. India biz."

Gold might be performing well at the box office but it opened to mixed reviews. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film two out of five stars and wrote: "Gold is dragged down by a story line that puts too much store by the anticipated crowd-pulling power of a Bollywood A-lister. The script, and the real events that inspired it, take a backseat in the process."
Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold showcases the journey of a hockey coach named Tapan Das, who wishes to win an Olympic gold medal for free India. The film marks the Bollywood debut of TV actress Mouni Roy and it also stars Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Kunal Kapoor.
