Guy Ritchie plans to open own brewery

London: British director Guy Ritchie is reportedly planning to set up his own brewery

The filmmaker, known for cult hits like Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Sherlock Holmes, intends to sell real ales and bottled beers brewed  at his 1,100-acre Ashcombe House estate in Wiltshire, according to reports.

The brewery is part of a plan by Ritchie to diversify activities on the estate, which was part of his 49 million pound divorce settlement from pop star Madonna. The estate, which used to be the home of high society photographer Cecil Beaton, boasts one of the most successful game shoots in the South of England.

An application for the brewery is with Wiltshire County Council. It states that the estate wants to produce beer "in its traditional form" with live yeast in the cask.

The product would be sold to local pubs, restaurants and hotels. The proposed brewery will also produce premium bottled beer, which could be sold around the world.

Ritchie, 41, who is currently planning a follow-up to his smash hit Sherlock Holmes film, is no stranger to the beer business: he co-owns The Punch Bowl pub in London's Mayfair.
