Noted playback singer Hariharanwas honoured with the National Lata Mangeshkar award at aceremony here.
Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister KailashVijayvargiya and Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma gave theaward to the 58-year-old singer at the Nehru Stadium here lastevening.
Hariharan, who is the 28th recipient of the award, wasgiven Rs two lakh cash, honour plaque, shawl and acoconut.
The singer is known for his famous renditions in Hindifilms like Roja, Bombay, Jeans, Indian, Taal,Shivaji, Guru, Border and Virasat.
He has also lent his voice for various Malayalam,Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Telugu films and isconsidered one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music.In 2004, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by theGovernment of India.
