Mumbai: After Jagjit Singh passed away last month, noted music-composer Bhupen Hazarika's death has further left a huge void in the Indian music industry, say celebrities.

Hazarika, who was on a ventilator for four months, had been in and out of hospital. He passed away Saturday at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.

Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who collaborated with the musician on her films like "Ek Pal","Rudaali" and "Daman" was at the hospital when he died.

"The nation will mourn the death of Bhupen Hazarika," Lajmi told TV reporters.

The film industry remembered the singer and many paid condolences through Twitter.

Mahesh Bhatt told TV reporters that the Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner was a 'giant among giants' while actor Farooque Sheikh said a gem like Hazarika can't be replaced easily.

In her condolence message the President Pratibha Patil said, "Dr. Hazarika was a creative genius whose deep baritone voice was instantly recognized by poetry and music lovers across the nation. His use of folk music with a touch of the contemporary made his compositions unique in their own way. In his passing away, the nation has lost a music maestro and an artiste of exceptional ability."
