Veteran actress Hema Malini, who played the role of Basanti in the 1975 iconic film Sholay, said that people refer to her by her on-screen name even today, which makes her feel nostalgic.
Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay completed forty years of its release today.
The 66-year-old actress-politician added that she is proud about the fact that she was a part ofSholay, which also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan, apart from her husband Dharmendra.

In Sholay, Hemaji played the role of a bold and talkative village girl with whom Veeru (Dharmendra) falls in love.
Basanti became one of the most favourite characters of the film, primarily because of her popular dialogues like Bhaag Dhanno Bhag, Aaj Teri Basanti Ki Izzat Ka Sawal Hai and songs including, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Holi Ke Din.
