High Court asks John Abraham to approach RPO for passport renewal
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court today directed actor John Abraham, convicted for negligent driving and injuring two persons, to approach the regional passport office seeking renewal of his passport.

Justice P D Kode has asked the passport office to consider Mr Abraham's application on merits and in accordance with law.

Mr Abraham had approached the High Court seeking direction to the passport authority for renewal of his passport for a year which expires within six months.

Mr Abraham had approached the passport office seeking renewal. However, the passport office refused to decide his application on the grounds that applicants with criminal case pending against them have to seek court permission for renewal or issuance of a new passport.

In his petition, the actor claimed that since the High Court has granted him probation there was no case pending against him.

The High Court recently convicted the actor of rash and negligent driving but decided that he should benefit from the first offence rule and not have to serve the 15 day sentence handed to him earlier. Mr Abraham injured two pedestrians while riding his bike in Mumbai in 2006.

Mr Abraham wants to renew his passport to travel to Turkey for the shoot of his next movie Race 2. In his petition, Mr Abraham said the Turkish government rules prescribe that work visas should be given only to those who have a passport valid for over six months.
